Here! This is my Imperialism essay. You gotta talk about Imperialism.
Don't worry where it says documents and stuff.
Imperialism is the domination by one nation of the political, economic, and cultural life of another nation. European nations have imperialized other countries for their own benefits and seeking to extend its influence around the world. Imperialism changed societies around the world in many ways. Some of these changes were positive while the others were negative.
Since 1500, countries have pursued a policy of expansion known as “Imperialism” for a variety of reasons in which the impacts of this policy can be viewed from unique perspective. The Industrial revolution led to Imperialism because the producers of the raw materials were interested in Imperialism. It led to new advances in technology such as transportation and communication. One of the main reasons why European nations imperialized others was for raw materials which were needed to produce good such as coal, cotton and rubber. The raw materials were very essential to European nations because they relied on those resources to keep their economy running. Without these raw materials, they wouldn’t be able to produce goods and make profit. Other nations had these resources available so, this interested the strong and powerful nations who were lacking these materials to take over other countries. Imperialist nations like the Great Britain used Indian labor to grow and harvest raw materials. The raw materials were sent back to Britain and made into finished clothing. The British brought the manufactured goods back to India and sold them for a higher price to make a profit (Document-Economic Motivations and Document 4- Control of Industry and Agriculture). Another reason was imperialist nations wanted to be stronger and to them, Expansion was everything. European nations wanted to gain land and power. They wanted to employ the land to expand their power and build military forces.
Great Britain was one of the strongest nations that had control over others and imperialized many countries. The English conquered India in 1763 for favorable conditions and abundance of natural resources. India was one of the country that had natural resources which the British desired to support their cloth industry. One of the positive impact of Imperialism on India was advances in technology. In document 2, it discusses the innovation of railroads in India. This was a positive impact because it made transportation easier and faster in way to trade goods, needs, and get troops from one side to the other. Indian railway building was supported by Britain in which both benefited but the English had more benefits because they used the railroads to transport goods and it was cheaper for them to ship cotton to England which was a profit. I believe that people in the society don’t contribute unless they gain something from it. This assertion relates to the British because they helped India but in the long run India was taken over and the British had more benefits. Another positive impact was advances in Telecommunications (Document 3). It made easier for the people to communicate with people far away in very little time. Imperialist nations gave to the smaller colonies. The nations built them roads, canals, and railways. It economized and established schools for the weaker nations. There were better methods of sanitation. There were new tools and farming methods, which helped, increase food production. These changes led to decrease in death rate. It improved the state of living and the nations now could live longer and have better sanitation. As factories, railways, hospitals were built led to increase in jobs for the people and economic expansion occurred.
