A secondary check, consisting of a physical examination, follows the primary check.
Explanation;
Secondary check or assessment is performed after the scene size up and the primary assessment . Must be sure the scene is safe, have all resources, and patient has no immediate life threats.
Components of Secondary Assessment include; Physical Examination, patient history and vital signs. Physical examination involves the use your senses to examine the patient. Feel for injuries, listen for abnormal breathing sounds, and look for swelling.
-Patient history is Obtained by asking questions which will provide vital information about your patient, history of the present illness (HPI) and past medical history (PMH). Vital Signs includes pulse, respiration, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, assess skin, and eyes, etc.
