Compare the shapes of the organisms that did and did not have cell walls. What effect does the cell wall have on the shape of the organism? (Amoeba, Paramecium, Euglena and Cardiac Muscle did not have a cell wall, and spirogyra and onion root did)

Why did the animal and plant cells lack cilia, flagella, or other means of locomotion?

  1. It restricts the cell shape: the spirogyra and onion cells are fairly uniform rectangles. All the other organism have more variable cell shapes especially the amoeba.
  2. Plants are mostly stationary and animals mostly move as entire organism via muscle contraction
