1. Do you agree that expungement, or the erasing of criminal records, would help reduce crime? Which of the theories discussed in this chapter supports or disputes this point?

Respuesta :

To a certain matter for some people I think that it would, but in general people would take that  as an advantage and keep commiting crimes I think at least.

What theories? Hope this helped!!

Answer:

I moderately agree that striking off or erasing criminal records would help to reduce crime.

I am divided because I think, on the one hand, that it is necessary to free an individual from the mistakes of his youth so that he can build a future for himself. On the other hand, I think it is too easy to afford everything because we know that it will be erased by the majority.

We should find a happy medium.

The theory behind this approach is the "Labelling Theory" of Howard Becker.

Howard Becker is interested in individuals who fit into deviant subcultures, taking the label that society has given them. He argues that most deviance is transitory, but once a negative label has been placed on a person, their choices become more limited. Ex: Once labelled as a criminal, an individual can no longer find a job, they no longer have a normal life, so they may fall back into crime.

I’m so surprised to learn that in 2004 in the EUA, fifty states had laws and regulations that prevented ex-offenders from re-entering the labour market.
