1. Here’s the expression: 5b+2a-g-b-5a
Simplify it to: 4b-g-3a
2. First, since you gained 5 crates of bananas, I multiplied +5 by b for bananas to represent the amount of bananas earned. This is where I got 5b. Next, you got 2 more crates of apples back, so you gained 2 crates of apples. This can be written as +2 multiplied by a (2a) to represent the amount of apples gained. After that, you dropped a crate of grapes which caused you to loose some. This must be written as negative or subtraction, since you are loosing grapes, not gaining any. So, I wrote it as -1 multiplied by g to get -g, to represent the grapes lost. Next, you sold, or lost, a crate of bananas. This also must be written as subtraction, so I wrote -1 multiplied by b to get -b for the amount of bananas lost. After that, I sold, or lost, 5 crates of apples. Again, I had to write this in subtraction form. So, I multiplied -5 by a to get -5a for the amount of apples lost. After all that, I combined it into the expression
5b+2a-g-b-5a. Finally, I had to simplify this expression by combining like terms. 2a and -5a are like terms, so I combined them to -3a. 5b and -b are like terms, so I combined them into 4b. -g has no like terms, so I left it alone. At last, I combined that into my final expression:
4b-g-3a
Hope this helped! Comment if you have any questions! :)
