A quantity of gas has a volume of 1.5 m3 and an absolute pressure of 95 kPa. When the gas is compressed to a volume of 0.5 m3, what is the new absolute pressure of the gas? (Assume that there’s no change in temperature.)

at isothermal condition we know that when temperature is constant we will have

[tex]P_1V_1 = P_2V_2[/tex]

here we will have

[tex]P_1 = 95 kPa[/tex]

[tex]V_1 = 1.5 m^3[/tex]

Now gas is compressed and its final volume will become

[tex]V_2 = 0.5 m^3[/tex]

now from above formula we have

[tex](95 kPa)(1.5 m^3) = (P_2)(0.5 m^3)[/tex]

now we have

[tex]P_2 = \frac{1.5 m^3}{0.5 m^3} (95 kPa)[/tex]

[tex]P_2 = 285 kPa[/tex]

so final pressure will be 285 kPa
