This is true. Placebos are typically sugar pills that are administered in a control group to test whether belief in healing/expected behaviour is as strong or stronger as the actual pharmacological effect of a drug. In certain trials patients do experience what is known as the Placebo effect where they claim to feel the effects of what they believe has been administered to them when in fact it is actually their own brain causing the effect.
