Have look at the ATPs involved in the reaction. You can see in the first stage there are 2 ATPs required to begin the reaction (the arrow points inwards). Then, in the second stage, in the conversion the 2 x 3C sugar phosphates, there are 2 ATPs released each.
So we have made 4 ATP, but we had to use 2 ATP, that means the net ATP production is 2 ATP (and the gross ATP production would be 4).
