Well the topic is widely argued open, between whether it was George Washington, or actually John Hanson. Many websites say different things...
Now, one source states that in November 1781, John Hanson became the first President of the United States in Congress Assembled, under the Articles of Confederation. Many people argued that John Hanson, and not George Washington, was the first President of the United States. However, other sources say that on April 30, 1789, George Washington, standing on the balcony of Federal Hall on Wall Street in New York, took his oath of office as the first President of the United States.
Quite messy, huh?
Just to be safe, I'd put down George Washington.
