The Cuban Revolution was considered to have begun in 1952. Former Army Sergeant Fulgencio Batista held power during a fiercely challenged election. Batista was president from 1940-1944 and ran for president again in 1952. Batista won the presidency, but he was fearful of future elections and made himself dictator. He canceled the 1952 elections of Congress. Many people in Cuba were disgusted and angered by his power grab. They preferred Cuba’s democracy even though it wasn’t perfect. One person who was angered by canceled elections and the loss of Cuban democracy was a rising political star, Fidel Castro. Castro would have probably won a seat in Congress had the 1952 elections taken place. Castro immediately began plotting against Batista’s government.

1. According to the reading above, why did Fidel Castro want to overthrow Fulgencio Batista?

Respuesta :

Answer:

Fidel Castro wanted to overthrow Fulgencio Batista because he had made himself dictator which many people disapproved of and cancelled elections.

Explanation:

In the text it states,

"...made himself dictator. He canceled the 1952 elections of Congress. Many people in Cuba were disgusted and angered by his power grab. "

" One person who was angered by canceled elections and the loss of Cuban democracy was a rising political star, Fidel Castro. Castro would have probably won a seat in Congress had the 1952 elections taken place."

Fulgencio Batista cancelled elections. That made Fidel Castro lose his chance to win a seat in congress, which he was likely to get. That angered him. Fulgencio Batista had also made himself dictator, which many people disapproved of, so it made another great reason for Fidel Castro to want to overthrow him.
