Archaea (archeobacteria) are prokaryotic organisms and differ from bacteria mainly in that their cell walls do not contain peptidoglycans.
Generally, these organisms have characteristics that not only allow them to survive in these environments, but also seem to improve in extreme environments. Thus, they are called extremophiles.
