- sam exerts power over the men, obviously because he is the son of their boss which inherently gives him power
- he is allowed to change behaviors and moods very rapidly and gets away with violent/degrading behavior towards the men, additionally feeding into this idea that he holds power over the men
- irony in the fact he is considerably younger than the men yet he is considered their "master"
