In order to find the limit we must use that :

1. One-sided limits must be equal

[tex]\lim _{x\to1^-}f(x)=4[/tex]

And,

[tex]\lim _{x\to1^+}f(x)=-2[/tex]

We can see that they are different, then the limit does not exist.
