Now, it was not in the best interest of the site owners to take those links out as the algorithm running in the background would make sure that you were engaged and the ads on the side kept playing. If you were clicking links to sites with hoax news then you would be given similar news sources in your feed. This creates a viscous cycle of spread of misinformation.
