The 1358 revolt of the French peasantry was called the Jacquerie. The peasants were suffering from poverty and the nobility were forcing them to pay exorbitant taxes. Furthermore, the peasants were forced to repair the noblemen's properties which were destroyed by war without any payment. Then a law was passed requiring the peasants to protect the manors of the noblemen who were their oppressors. Apparently this was the trigger for the uprising.
