Emma thinks Harriet is a great replacement for her governess, who had recently gotten married at the start of the book, as well.
She was courteous and made an impression on Emma with her kind disposition. She lacks sophistication and is far too susceptible to being persuaded, especially by Emma. Early in the book, Emma takes Harriet under her wing and uses her for some of her erroneous matchmaking schemes.
