The nurse should calculate the correction dose the patient should take.

Correction dose = [actual(144mg/dl) - target blood glucose(100mg/dl in a fasting situation)] ÷ correction factor(50) <=>

<=> Correction dose = 1 (0.88) unit 

The nurse will need to add 1 unit to the 8 units that are already prescribed.
